When we speak we often use ‘abstract’ words; they are words with multiple meanings in different situations.

One such instance is when people are asked to monitor their voice volume via abstract words, thus allowing a range of possible interpretations of the same word or expression.

For example, a phrase like ‘use your inside voice’ might be used. An inside voice at an intimate restaurant is different to an inside voice at your local family restaurant which is different again to your inside voice at an indoor basketball match.
