Behaviour Specialist Consultations
Behaviour support specialist consultations for behaviour change that lasts
Behavioural Therapist Gold Coast, Brisbane, Tweed Shire, Flagstone, Beaudesert and online
All of us experience behaviours we would prefer not to be using. No matter the intensity of the non-preferred behaviour, we have all at some point tried to change it and, in most cases, we have been unsuccessful.
Many of us then continue through life, managing the behaviour but never truly understanding, changing or moving on from it. Yet, there is a simple way to successfully change our behaviour and achieve lasting results.
Behaviour Change Specialists
Whether you are experiencing extreme non-preferred or ‘just’ mild or moderate unwanted behaviours, we offer specialised clinical services for all who aim to identify the true root cause of why you or another are experiencing the behaviour in the first place.
Every behaviour happens for a reason and our methodology is based on the premise that the only way to achieve true and lasting behaviour change is through understanding the behaviour and the reason for it in full. That way we do not judge, criticise or label anyone or ourselves for any behaviour they or we might be experiencing. When there is judgment or labelling of anyone based on their behaviour, there can never be true understanding.
We also understand that true behaviour change can only come from teaching the needed skills without ever expecting it. The behaviours we teach are based on supporting a person to develop the necessary skills to master life for themselves and never is it about them becoming reliant or dependent on anyone else.
Our approach to behaviour change is based on the principles of the Body Life Skills Program.
This approach is known and renowned for being effective in even the most extreme cases and in some instances has been the last resort for people who had tried just about everything else.

Additionally, our on-site consultations can offer support with:
— Observing the Person Using Challenging Behaviours
Observing the person using the challenging behaviours in their home, school, workplace or any environment where it occurs, allows us to gain an understanding as to why the unwanted or non-preferred behaviours are occurring. This is crucial when developing effective strategies for lasting behaviour change.
— Implementing Behaviour Change Strategies
To successfully implement the behaviour change strategies in the location where we would like the wanted and preferred behaviours to occur, we need to be taught how. When these strategies are demonstrated by a Fabic staff member in the home, school, work or other environment, you, your family and your colleagues will gain understanding and feel more equipped to support lasting behaviour change.
— Staff training for individual clients or staff in the workplace
- Includes a detailed written report with recommendations of strategies to implement in the school or other setting aimed at assisting lasting behaviour change of an individual client.
- Includes Fabic staff reviewing the report with all relevant people (staff and/or family) working with the client, aimed at assisting the implementation.

Understanding Behaviour Change
What does a Behaviour Change Specialist do?
Broadly speaking a Behaviour Change Specialist supports people to address non-preferred or unwanted behaviours. These may be extreme unwanted behaviours that bring harm or distress to the person experiencing the behaviour and to those around them, or it might be mild unpreferred behaviours that are interfering with a person enjoying their full potential.
A Behaviour Change Specialist will assess a person’s behaviour and develop behaviour strategies that can be implemented in the person’s everyday environment. At FABIC we like to ensure that the parents, carers and the ‘community members’ in a person’s life are also equipped to support with behaviour change. Our approach is to bring understanding to the reason the behaviours are occurring in the first place so that behaviours can be addressed in a lasting way and not just managed in the short term.
Understanding that a behaviour does not define the essence of a person, is key to this approach. While we can say that a behaviour is something that someone does, it does not define who they are.

Tanya and her team of Behaviour Support Practitioners always say that it is their job to make their jobs redundant. In other words, everyone can be a behaviour change specialist when they have a true understanding of how behaviour works. To this end Tanya and the Fabic team have developed many resources for clients and mental health professionals that can support with Autism including a complete series available on the FABIC behaviour change TV platform, Fabic.tv.
