Accepting others and life – or react?

Acceptance means that we allow life and other people to be as they are. We do not need to react, rebel or fight; instead we bring understanding in the knowing that everybody has life lessons they have already mastered and untold many they have not yet mastered. And in that, we are all the same.

Tanya Curtis, Senior Behaviour Specialist and founding director of FABIC Behaviour Specialist Centre, explains that accepting others is based on the undeniable fact that at the core of every person is an awesome, amazing and lovable being – even though their behaviour may at times need correcting.

When people are presented with lessons they perceive they are not yet equipped to respond to, their anxiety increases which often leads to an array of non-preferred or unwanted behaviours.

So acceptance simply means to embrace the world and all its people and understand that life is one massive classroom with an endless list of life lessons waiting to be self-mastered.
