Intended vs. interpreted message

Intended message = the message that one individual was wanting to send to another person
Interpreted message = the message that was actually received... the message the person responds to
How are other people interpreting my current message?

1. My words
2. My lack of words
3. My Behaviours
4. My lack of behaviour

If people interpret the message as a:

1. Negative experience for them = they are likely to respond defensively = less likely future interaction
2. Positive experience for them = they are likely to respond positively = desire for future interactions

Remember: the intended message is often different to the interpreted message
